Filmmaker Steven McCurdy’s newest cultural documentary, My Private Italy, is a personal journey through the sights and sounds, people and places and the magic of everyday experiences in (mostly) Northern Italy.

We meet a mask maker in Venice, attend a wedding in Livorno, stay in the mountaintop town of St. Luce, participate in the festival of San Cataldo and travel to a ghost town in Compania, meeting dozens of people along the way.

Steven’s journey takes us to Venice Bassano del Grappa, Varese, Livorno, St. Luce, the Cinque Terre Florence, Supino, Buccino, Vecchio, Romagnano al Monte and Rome. His Adventures are interspersed with old 8mm home ovies of Italy from the 1950s and 60s that take the audience back to a bygone Italy.

This is Steven McCurdy’s third film in which he looks at culture, travel and tourism in Italy with a very personal look at the “enchantment of everyday life.” Last year we screened Steven’s 2nd film, Postcards from Italy, to great success here at the Theater.
